Key Features

Automatic Engine Immobilisation

The Meta Trak S5 DEADLOCK includes automatic immobilisation, which works via a Bluetooth-enabled ID tag. ‘Proximity’ - When the tag is out of range of the vehicle (5-10m), the immobiliser will arm, meaning your vehicle is always immobilised when not in use. When the ID tag is brought back into range, the immobiliser automatically disarms and allows the vehicle to be started. Automatic immobilisation prevents keyless theft methods such as relay attacks and key cloning.

The engine immobiliser can be configured in 4 different modes.

  • No Tag, No Start

    (proximity-based immobilisation)

The most popular configuration for any Meta Trak immobiliser is the "No Tag, No Start" option, where the immobiliser arms and disarms automatically based on the proximity of the Meta Trak ID tag. After the vehicle's ignition is switched off, the system waits for the Meta Trak ID tag to go out of range and then arms the engine immobiliser. The immobiliser disarms when the ID tag is in close proximity, allowing for seamless vehicle startup without requiring any user interaction.

    No Tag, ONE Start

    (Concerns surrounding forced entry)

The "No Tag, One Start" configuration from Meta Trak allows the vehicle to be started once without the Meta Trak ID tag. This can prevent violent thieves from entering your home to force you to start the vehicle. If the vehicle is stolen, the immobiliser prevents a second start without the ID tag, helping to recover the vehicle away from your home.

    Button Press

    (Automatic arming, manual disarming)

Meta Trak's 'Button Press' configuration automatically arms the engine immobiliser 60 seconds after the vehicle's ignition is turned off. To disarm, the driver needs to press the central button on the Meta Trak ID tag. The immobiliser doesn't rely on the ID tag's proximity and can be disarmed from a distance on approach. A successful disarm is indicated by 6 rapid flashes of the red LED on the Meta Trak ID tag. This configuration is rare but useful in situations where there is difficulty creating enough distance between the ID tag and the vehicle's system for reliable system arming. Also used as extra security as a physical input is needed for disarming.

    Remote Immobilisation Only

(immobilisation can only be done remotely)

In this setup, the immobiliser can only be armed and disarmed remotely using the Meta Trak mobile app or web-based portal. The Meta Trak ID tag is not needed for the immobiliser and there is no automatic immobilisation. The immobilisation of the vehicle is done manually but remotely.

To arm the immobiliser, the customer uses the Meta Trak customer app to send a remote immobiliser arm/block command. To disarm the immobiliser, they simply send a disarm/unblock command.

If a vehicle is remotely immobilised, it cannot be started unless an unblock command is sent from a Meta Trak platform. This setup is commonly used for fleet tracking systems paired with an engine immobiliser.

It's common among business fleet operators and vehicle leasing companies, enabling them to immobilise their vehicles remotely in case of non-payment from customers. It's also used by plant machinery hiring businesses to protect vehicles from theft.

By default your system is normally set-up for No Tag, No Start/Proximity-based immobilisation but any of the other configurations can be selected on the day of installation. Additionally, you opt to change your immobilisers configuration mode at any time by contact Meta Trak in which they will send the change remotely over the air to your system.

Remote Engine Immobilisation - DEADLOCK Feature

The Meta Trak S5 DEADLOCK system includes Meta Trak's DEADLOCK feature. this feature allows you to remotely immobilise your vehicle from your smartphone or via Meta Trak’s web portal. Deadlocking your vehicle gives you complete control and overrides the ID tags, preventing the vehicle from being started even if the key and authorised ID tag are stolen. This feature is useful when you're away from your vehicle and have left the key and ID tags at home or for extra security on a daily basis. Additionally, Meta Trak can remotely immobilise your vehicle on your behalf in the event of theft.

In the interest of safety, both for the vehicle driver and other road users - Remote immobilisation commands can only be sent once the vehicle’s ignition has been switched off.

Automatic Driver Recognition

The Meta Trak S5 DEADLOCK uses a small battery-operated ID tag that you can attach to your vehicle keys for driver recognition. This ID tag emits a signal that the tracker looks to find. When the vehicle's ignition is switched on, the system checks for the ID tag. If the ID tag is found, everything is in order, indicating that the authorised driver is present. If the system fails to see the ID tag, an alert is sent to the secure operating centre, and a staff member will contact you directly by phone to establish whether a theft has occurred. Meta Trak’s automatic driver recognition ID tags communicate with the system using Bluetooth Low Energy technology. Their battery life is around 12-18 months before the battery needs to be replaced.

Wireless Link Architecture

The Meta Trak S5 DEADLOCK tracking device can communicate with the immobilisers wirelessly via a Bluetooth low-energy link. Unlike most other competing systems that hardwire their tracking unit and immobiliser together, Meta Trak's Wireless Link Architecture is far more secure, especially if thieves are actively looking for the system. While tracking units can be fitted in nearly all areas of a vehicle, immobilisers cannot. There are very few immobilisation points on a given vehicle to connect an immobiliser in order to stop the vehicle from starting. This means that if the tracking unit is hardwired to the immobiliser, there are now very few locations where the tracking unit may be installed.

Meta Trak’s Wireless Link Architecture technology included with the Meta Trak S5 DEADLOCK system enables the tracking unit to be installed away from the immobiliser to avoid detection or tracing of connected wiring if those very few immobilisation points are explored by thieves. Additionally, Meta Trak's wireless link technology enables the communication of the ignition status from the immobiliser/vehicle to be wirelessly sent to the tracking unit. This allows for a more covert installation of the tracking unit itself, as only the positive and negative wires of the tracking unit need to be connected. This makes it possible to mount the tracking unit in otherwise difficult-to-reach areas of the vehicle where ignition wiring may be sparse or non-existent.

Meta Trak’s Wireless Link Architecture technology ultimately aids in the covertness and security of your installation, giving you a better chance of recovery in the event of theft.

General Features

Secure Control Room Monitoring

The Meta Trak S5 DEADLOCK system is connected to Meta Trak’s manned 24/7/365 Secure Operating Centre. If the system generates any alerts, a member of staff will call the number associated with your account to ascertain whether or not a theft has taken place. If you confirm that the vehicle has been stolen, the monitoring team will liaise with local police forces and direct them to the vehicle using positioning data from the system. This service is available throughout the UK and Europe.

Live Tracking

The Meta Trak DEADLOCK and Meta Trak’s customer app allow you to track your vehicle's location in real time. The system can also log your journeys for up to one year and score them by measuring driving behaviour data.

Multiple Positioning Technologies

The Meta Trak S5 DEADLOCK uses the latest GNSS receiver technology and multiple tracking technologies, including data from the GPS, Galileo, and GLONASS satellite constellations as well as GSM cell-based positioning. This provides greater resistance to jamming attempts.

Multi Network-Roaming Connectivity

The Meta Trak S5 DEADLOCK uses the latest quad band modem and globally roaming SIM to ensure optimal network connection for communications. Multi-network-roaming connectivity ensures the device isn’t fixed to a signal mobile network provider; it can instead connect to more than one mobile network at any one time, seamlessly switching between the strongest signal being presented in the device location. Automatic switching from network to network enables reliable data transmission and receival even if you live or travel through an area with poor signal from a particular mobile network provider.

Unauthorised Movement Alerts

If your vehicle position moves whilst the ignition is off, for instance, if your vehicle is towed away, the Meta Trak S5 DEADLOCK system will send an alert to the secure operating centre. Again, a member of the team will call you directly to confirm the status of the vehicle. A push notification alert of the event will also be sent to the Meta Trak app.

Battery Disconnection Alerts

If your vehicle's battery is disconnected or power is lost to the tracking unit, the Meta Trak S5 DEADLOCK system will send an alert to the secure control room. If power is lost to the tracking unit, it will switch to its internal battery backup to ensure continued operation. A push notification alert of the event will also be sent to the Meta Trak app.

Low Vehicle Battery Alerts

If your vehicle's battery falls below a pre-set threshold, the Meta Trak S5 DEADLOCK will send a push notification through to the Meta Trak app. You can also view your vehicle's current battery voltage in the Meta Trak app.

System Health Checks

For customer peace of mind, Meta Trak’s tracking systems are actively monitored to ensure correct operation.

Meta Trak S5 DEADLOCK Key features, benefits and how this security system works to prevent theft of your vehicle.

What is the Meta Trak S5 DEADLOCK?

Meta Trak's S5 DEADLOCK is a combined vehicle security system developed to address the challenges of modern vehicle theft techniques. The system features Thatcham category S5 insurance-approved tracking as an automatic proximity-based engine immobiliser, the engine can also be remotely operated via the Meta Trak app. The system's separate components communicate wirelessly using Meta Trak's wireless link architecture. This unique architecture allows each part of the system to be placed in different areas of the vehicle without needing physical connections, something that sets it apart from its competitors, athis is because hardwired combined security system are easily found and removed by thieves. The "combined security" offered by the system provides a strong defence against various theft methods such as relay attacks, key cloning, OBD attack/CAN injection, and more.

The 2 main levels of security include –

1 - Thatcham and Insurance-approved Category S5 Stolen Vehicle Tracking

Category S5 trackers fall under Thatcham's Category S5: Vehicle Tracking Systems. Insurance companies require them to be installed on high-value vehicles prone to theft. S5 trackers provide round-the-clock monitoring, theft support, live tracking, automatic driver recognition, and more.

The most significant advantage of S5 trackers is their automatic driver recognition feature which quickly alerts the monitoring centre of any unauthorised movements of the vehicle, such as during a theft.

If a vehicle is stolen, the monitoring centre confirms the theft with the owner and professionally liaises with the police to assist with the vehicle's recovery, using direct links to police control rooms.

2 - Engine Immobilisation

Automatic engine immobilisation

The Meta Trak S5 DEADLOCK comes with advanced engine immobilisation capabilities. The system is preconfigured at the factory for "Automatic proximity-based engine immobilisation," also known as "No Tag, No Start."

The automatic engine immobilisation works in conjunction with Meta Trak's ID tag. When the ID tag is out of range of the vehicle, the immobiliser arms, which means your vehicle is always immobilised when not in use or when you are away from it. When the ID tag comes back into range, the immobiliser automatically disarms and allows the vehicle to be started. This aftermarket immobilisation system helps prevent various modern digital theft methods.

Remote engine immobilisation (DEADLOCK)

The Meta Trak S5 DEADLOCK system allows you to remotely immobilise your vehicle's engine from anywhere in the world using your smartphone or a web browser.

Remote immobilisation is a significant security benefit for your vehicle. This feature can be especially useful in high-risk environments where your vehicle's key and ID tags may be at risk of theft. For example, if you leave your vehicle's key and Meta Trak ID tags at home and your house is broken into while you're on holiday, thieves may potentially be able to start your vehicle by presenting these to the vehicle, as the system can see the ID tag and disarm the engine immobiliser.

However, before you leave for your holiday, sending a remote immobilisation command to the vehicle will prevent thieves from starting your vehicle, even if they have the keys and ID tags. This is because sending a remote immobilisation command to the vehicle instructs the system to ignore the presence of an ID tag and keep the immobiliser armed.

Sending a remote engine immobilisation command is what we call "DEADLOCKING" the vehicle.
