Installation Quality
You could say that installation quality is more important than the product or system you choose to purchase. That’s because no matter what system you have installed, if it’s installed poorly, thieves will find it easily and remove it quickly.
Tracking systems should be installed as covertly as possible, undistinguishable from your vehicle’s OE equipment and wiring. The tracking unit’s wiring harness should be taped in an appropriate matching tape as used by the vehicles original equipment (OE) supplier, the tracking unit should be hidden away in a covert location as with even all trim panels removed the unit and its wiring should not be visible, or at least it should not stand out at all.
Unfortunately, this is not always the case, many systems are poorly installed, and once trim panels are removed the unit and its wiring are laying in plain sight easily visible to thieves. This sort of installation quality only serves to aid thieves in their attempt to find and remove the system and have little chance of ever recovering a stolen vehicle. It can also damage the reputation and credibility of this sort of vehicle security with the public. As we do service call work for many of the manufacturers of these systems, we would say the installation of around 70% of systems are of sub-standard quality.
When talking about vehicle tracking systems, the inherent security of your vehicle is overwhelmingly down to the quality of the systems installation through a method called security through obscurity. This means a good proportion of your vehicles security is reliant on the secrecy of the systems implementation.
Stratosphere Auto Systems Installation Quality
Installation quality is key, no matter what system you intend to purchase we will install it to the highest standard and to the best of our ability. As Stratosphere Auto Systems is small team, we have complete control over the quality of your installation, meaning we can provide a start to end service including advice, sale and installation. We also offer the most comprehensive guide to stolen vehicle recovery systems available online, allowing you to decide for yourself which product or system best suits your needs.
We install the systems we offer to a high standard, with excellent attention to detail to give you the best possible chance of recovering your vehicle in the event of theft. That means placing your tracking unit in a good covert location where it can function correctly whilst ensuring its wiring harness is taped in matching OE tapes used on your specific vehicle. Where possible we will tape this harness into an existing OE wiring loom on the vehicle to hide its presence entirely. Instead of pulling the tracking unit/immobiliser out the box and taping or using its entire harness length, we will custom trim each wire such as the ignition, live, neg and immobilisation wires to branch off the main loom at varying points depending on the application and vehicle.
The result is a bespoke OE matching wiring loom that is undistinguishable from your vehicle’s OE wiring, branching off to the differing pick up points to power your tracking unit as covertly as possible. With trim panels removed the system should be visually undetectable. What makes our installations superior is a combination of mindset, experience and outside of the box thinking, we will strive for perfection so you will not receive a ‘that will do’ installation.
As the discovery of these systems is mainly due to poor installation, it is the main reason for failed recovery of a stolen vehicle. While the manufacturers of the systems get the backlash from customers for not being able to recover the vehicle after it was stolen, we would say around 85% of these cases are most likely due to poor installation of the system itself. This ultimately leads to the system being discovered and removed by the thief in which the manufacturers and monitoring personnel of the system have little control over.
Don’t fall victim to a poor installation, ensure your system is being installed by a credible and competent company/technician who will provide a professional level of workmanship to all aspects of the installation process.
